My
Take On Nutrition
We
have all heard it before. " Diet and sound nutrition is
the key to obtaining any "real results". That my
be good advice, but I always get questions about what to eat
and when to eat and how much of wha t, etc. It is my goal with
this section to provide my theories and practices on just exactly
a "good" diet is. But It also my goal in the nutrition
section as a whole to show you how to design and execute proper
nutrition and supplementation to create a bullet proof diet.
Rarely will You hear me talk about the number of meals or
exact ratios of nutrients to maximize a certain effect. My basic philosophy on
nutrition for the bodybuilder looking to pack on muscle is that it should be
higher in protein, moderate in carbohydrates and low in saturated fats. I don't
think that excessive protein intake is required, but let us not forget the muscle
is protein, and protein is muscle.
It is a vital component in our quest for muscle
despite what the experts may tell you. I feel that protein intakes of about 2-2.5g/lb
of lean mass is not too much. I think that by spacing it out in to smaller easy
to handle portions, you will be doing your body a favor. You body is basically
a lump of protein suspended in water. And it has been my experience that any
bodybuilder who tries to follow the food guide pyramid of 65-70% of total calories
from carbs, is...well, let's just say less than massive.
I don't think that there is a right number of meals to
eat in a day either. However, I do believe that you should eat as many as humanly
possible in the day. I eat every 2-3 hours from the minute I Wake up to the minute
I go to bed. And I also make it a point to wake up in the middle of the night
and supply my body with quality nutrients to spark the anabolic drive. I often
hear the 6-8 range thrown around a lot, but that to me, isn't enough. I don't "snack".
everything I put into my mouth that has calories is considered a meal, so I make
sure that every meal is designed to created an environment conductive to muscle
growth
So make sure to pay close attention to the information that
relates to nutrition, this is my favorite topic and one that I put a lot of time
into. If you can go though my website and still not understand how to construct
a "good" diet based on a sound nutritional plan that combines whole
food with supplements. Not only shoudl you physically do these things, but you should understand why you are doing them, then I have failed
as an educator. I feel that your dietary habits will
be the limiting factor in propelling your physique to the next level of development.
I firmly feel
that paying close attention to your dietary habits has one
of the greatest impacts on the outcome from your training.
It has been estimated that your diet accounts for as much as
80% of the results you receive. If I had to make a choice between
training everyday, or maintain sound nutritional habits, and
a clean diet to bring me closer to the physique that I strive
to achieve. I would have to chose my nutritional habits and
diet to do so. It is that important to me.
Lets face it, there
are hundreds and thousands of people who work hard in the gym
but can't seem to achieve the level of success that they
want. But a closer look at what they do outside the
gym, it is clear as to why that is. I hope you can learn
from my input here. |
